Picking a present for a dear friend or relative is not always easy. It actually depends on the occasion. Choosing a present for a birthday celebrant may be quite easy compared to selecting a gift for someone who just recovered from a terrible illness. Of course, buying a present for some dear to you is definitely less complicated than purchasing a gift for someone who is just your acquaintance, or for someone you just met. In situations wherein you do not know the receiver well enough, consider giving fruit baskets or gourmet gift baskets.

Giving a gift basket shows not only your thoughtfulness, but also your uniqueness in selecting a present. A fruit basket is also something that is sure to be appreciated by anyone – whether young or old, rich or poor, etc. Gift baskets also give you the edge presentation-wise, and are sure to remain in the memory of the receiver for quite a long time. If you want to give someone a present that is unexpected yet very much welcomed at the same time, go for gourmet fruit baskets or you can also make your own fruit baskets for a more personal touch.

Here are steps on how you can make your own gift basket:

First, you have to look for a basket. You may look for one in malls, or even garage sales if you are on a tight budget. Second hand baskets are more often than not priced at less than $5. If you come across a nice yet dirty basket, you just have to wash it with a water hose then leave it under the sun until it gets dry.

Once you have your basket ready, decorate it. Fruit baskets are never complete without ribbons, so make sure that you have close to two yards of ribbon which you can wrap around the basket handle and even around the basket body. For more presentable gourmet fruit baskets, you may also attach some flowers beside the ribbon or use other decorative accessories which you can get from craft shops.
